If you clicked on the save icon and nothing happened that mean you didn't make any changes that are needed to be saved to the server, carry on normally :) .
Changes that are need to be saved are buying, selling, planting, harvesting, etc.
Remember that there is an auto-save feature that might already saved your game after your last planting hence clicking on the save icon will do nothing.
